As the youngest of six children growing up on the family dairy farm in Anderson, I learned diplomacy and the importance of teamwork. I attended Shasta College and CSU, Chico and have a B.S. in Agriculture Business. My part-time “day job” is at a consulting firm in Redding, CA. I reside in Tehama County with my husband, two young daughters, fox-heeler cowdogs, Daisy Dot Duke and Captain Jack Brown. I am also a 4-H Community Leader and help my girls with their rabbit and letterboxing projects.
I decided I wanted to become a doula after my first birth experience. I began the certification process for DONA International with the required reading while pregnant with baby number two.
Within the first hour of my doula training, CD(DONA), I knew I had finally found my place and purpose in this world (my a-ha moment). Being a doula is so rewarding! Snapshots fill my mind from the births I attend; looks of triumph (with fist bump), contentment, joy, surprise, strength, determination & gratitude, from mothers, fathers, grandmas, cousins, & aunts.
In the spirit of giving back to my community, I served as a volunteer once a month as a doula in Chico at Enloe Medical Center (the volunteer doula program is currently suspended). My volunteer doula experience has enabled me to learn how to form rapid support relationships with laboring moms as well as earning the respect and trust of the medical staff. In addition, I donate my services to two teen moms per year.
My Lamaze training in the fall of 2014 was ah-mah-zing! The best part of teaching Lamaze is when I get to see my students remember and use what they have learned when they are in labor with me as their birth doula. Lamaze is less about breathing techniques and more about reducing fears, increasing confidence, and giving women the okay to follow their instincts. Let labor start when baby is ready, move around, have support, avoid interventions, push the way that works for you and snuggle those babies!
I look forward to the opportunity to meet and know you, I love being a guide down the path to parenthood!
"Having Doula Anne at my birth gave me the birthing experience that I wanted."
